Winter
The Winter Sports Paradise
Valtellina has a special relationship with skiing, one need only mention Pietro Vitalini and Deborah Compagnoni, natives of Santa Caterina Valfurva itself.
The winter season starts early: in fact, as early as November cross-country ski teams come to train, attracted by the Valtellina slope, the scene of the most important national and international competitions, thanks mainly to its location and altitude, which guarantees excellent snow conditions.

Slopes and facilities for all tastes
Among all the various ski areas in Valtellina we are talking about 230 km of perfectly snow-covered slopes, accessible thanks to about 70 ski lifts, allowing you to ski in an enchanting natural setting. The slopes of Santa Caterina Valfurva have also been the site of world cup competitions! The longest and most exciting slope in the entire ski area is the Deborah Compagnoni, the slope where important World Cup races are held (the men’s downhill at the end of the year and the 2005 World Cup). On the Deborah Compagnoni slope it is also possible to ski at night, thanks to an artificial lighting system.
Also cross-country skiing and other disciplines
In addition to alpine skiing, many other disciplines can be done, especially cross-country skiing, but also biathlon, snowboardingtelemark, freestyle, ski touring, snowshoeing and dog sledding.
