Summer in Santa Caterina Valfurva is synonymous with 360° nature. A true paradise for those who want to escape the heat of the city, where fresh air and unspoilt nature frame a wide range of activities in the heart of the Stelvio National Park.

Here you will find numerous options suitable for everyone, including families. Forget the hustle and bustle, leave the car behind and let yourself be carried away by the slowness of the mountains: here you can get around on foot or by bike, thanks to the dense network of trails that allow you to go trekking and hiking, as well as long horseback rides in front of the majestic peaks that tower over our valleys.

Summer vacation ideas

Trekking

One does not necessarily have to be an athlete to fully enjoy the beauty that surrounds us.
Here, amidst woods and valleys, there is a network of footpaths ranging from the more peaceful, but no less scenic, routes, to the more challenging ones suitable for more experienced hikers.
Just a few kilometres from Santa Caterina it is possible to reach Valle dei Forni and Val Cedec, from where it is possible to admire the Forni Glacier, one of the largest in Italy, set among 13 peaks.
It is here that you can walk on the paths that were once the protagonists of the First World War and where you can still come across the trenches where soldiers fought more than a hundred years ago.
Again from the Forni Valley, it is possible to reach, via the Zebrú Pass, another jewel in the crown of Valfurva, Val Zebrú, a valley that can also be walked starting from the Niblogo car park, in the locality of Madonna dei Monti.
But it doesn’t end here: still from Santa Caterina Valfurva, you can comfortably reach the Alpe valley by cable car and admire the view from above, then walk towards the Gavia valley.

Don’t forget the possibility of having lunch or even just stopping for a quick snack at the refuges located along the various trails, because there is no better refreshment than a good plate of steaming polenta after a long walk!
In short, there really is something for everyone, all you have to do is choose the right route, enjoy!

CYCLING AND MOUNTAIN BIKIN

Where there is ascent, there is hard work. And this is where the most passionate bikers come into play.
We are at the foot of the most iconic passes in the world of cycling, including Gavia, Stelvio and Mortirolo, which have marked and continue to mark the history of the Giro d’Italia.
And it is precisely those who love this world that will have the opportunity to enjoy the entire ascent to these passes in total freedom thanks to the initiative
‘Enjoy Stelvio Valtellina’, which foresees the closure to motorised traffic of some of the mountain passes in the Province of Sondrio. (For further information www.valtellina.it)
Mountain Bike enthusiasts will also be able to enjoy themselves on the trails of Trail Bormio 360, the 140 km-long MTB and E-Bike itinerary divided into 10 stages, as well as the Stelvio Natural Trail Park.
Younger children can get closer to the world of two wheels thanks to the Santa Caterina Bike School, with a practice field and activities guided by expert instructors.

Chidren

But that’s not all, because children can enjoy many other activities designed especially for them, from visits to the malga and educational farms to horse riding, not forgetting the fascinating husky trekking, the husky dog walk and the adrenaline-filled Family Bob. Also not to be forgotten are the days animated by the Miniclub and the many playgrounds, including minigolf!

OTHER SPORT

Even for older people, however, Santa Caterina and its surroundings offer a myriad of possibilities that go beyond walking and cycling. These include horseback riding in the forests of Alta Valtellina, golf and tennis in Bormio, yoga and Pilates classes in the Santa Caterina Valfurva pine forest, and for those who just don’t want to give up snow even in summer, summer skiing at the Stelvio Glacier.

CULTURE AND TRADITION

Come and discover the customs and traditions of yesteryear that have written the history of our territory: the Vallivo Museum in Valfurva and the Park Visitor Centre offer an insight into life in past centuries as well as the wealth of fauna and flora that populate the Stelvio Park. Also of interest are the historic centre of Bormio and its museum as well as the Oga Fort, one of the best preserved fortifications in Europe dating back to the First World War and built to defend the main Alpine passes of Alta Valtellina.
